Colleen Ballinger's Team Slams Blackface Allegations
Colleen Ballinger is facing backlash for a 2009 performance of Beyoncé's "Single Ladies" in what some alleged was blackface, which her legal team has denied.
The YouTube star was accused of being racially insensitive when social media influencer Paige Christie unearthed footage of Ballinger covering the 2008 smash hit during one of her live shows. In a 45-second clip posted on Twitter July 5, Ballinger—acting as her awkward alter ego Miranda Sings—was seen belting out the tune with what appeared to be dark paint smeared across her face.
"I'm gonna need someone to explain the black on her face," Christie tweeted, prompting act…

The biggest and dirtiest secret of the energy market is that most of it is lost in generating, transmitting, distributing, and using it. Solving this problem would be revolutionary, reducing competition for resources that contributes to conflict as well as climate change.
Energy is one of the most valuable businesses in the world, worth trillions of dollars a year. It is the centerpiece of most discussions about climate change because it is associated with around 80% of human made greenhouse gas emissions. As nations compete for it, energy has also been a fuel for geopolitical conflict, and today, competition for resources lurks beneath the Russia-Ukraine war and even the Israel-Hamas crisis.
Before the war, Ukraine was the conduit through which Russia supplied Europe with 4…
More than 300,000 people in the U.S. have died from COVID-19 as of today—a sobering figure under any circumstance, but particularly given the speed at which the the virus is killing more people.
In the past week alone, nearly 17,000 people in the U.S. have died of COVID-19. And with hundreds of thousands of new cases reported every single day, next week’s number may be even larger.
For a while, COVID-19 death rates were improving in the U.S., even as the virus continued its spread across the country. Nationally, more than 2,000 people were dying from COVID-19 each day this spring. During much of the summer, the number fell to 1,000 or fewer per day—still a staggering toll, but one at least trending in the right direction. Since then, the trend has reversed,…
When Noah Shulman was born a few days after Christmas 2016, his parents Kristelle and Evan had no reason to worry about him. The pregnancy went smoothly, and so did the birth.
But within a few days of taking his first breath, Noah began to struggle. He wasn’t feeding, so he started losing weight. He was also lethargic. Several pediatricians reassured the Shulmans that they were probably just overly sensitive to Noah’s symptoms because Kristelle is a nurse and Evan is a physician assistant–a case of first-time-parent-white-coat syndrome. “They kind of dismissed us as neurotic parents,” says Evan.
But when Noah strained to breathe, the alarmed Shulmans took him to the emergency room, and he spent the next few months in the hospital. After a harrow…

Indeed, 13% of consumers are more likely to buy expensive longer-lasting items over cheaper fashionable clothing, and nearly 39% say they would prefer to spend more on expensive better quality clothing, according to research by the Fashion Retail Academy.By contrast, just 26% of UK consumers say they will buy cheaper more fashionable clothes that are unlikely to last until next season.
Additionally, 25.4% of Britons are wearing their everyday items for over two years, with the average consumer now wearing their jeans and t-shirts for almost a year and a half. There is also a significant proportion of consumers (25%) who have continued to wear an item of clothing for over 10 years, the survey found. The results suggest a possible move away from throwaway fashion as years of campaign…
In a statement released this Tuesday, the Rapaport Group revealed that RAPI for 1-carat diamonds had increased by 0.3% in December 2017, while that of 0.50-carat and 0.30-carat stones rose by 0.6% and 1.2%, respectively. RAPI for 3-carat diamonds, however, decreased by 1.7% over the same period.Taking these latest figures into account, the 1-carat RAPI fell by 0.8% in the fourth quarter and by 5.3% over the full year 2017.
This improved market sentiment in the diamond industry in December can be attributed in large part to better-than-expected holiday sales in the US and strong demand in China in the run up to Chinese New Year on February 16. In the US, jewellers and diamantaires, faced with a rapidly changing market, were most successful over the holiday season when they made …
